About Me

I was recently, prior to my resignation, a Clinical Exercise Referral Manager. In this full-time role, I managed three long-term medical condition projects funded by the NHS; Cardiac Rehabilitation, Pulmonary Rehabilitation and Stroke Rehabilitation. I was also a member of the East Lancashire Cardiac Rehabilitation Service, offering a unique one-on-one service to relevant patients including those with Heart Failure in Blackburn with Darwen, who were risk stratified as high-risk and had at least one contraindication to exercise.

I have worked in the health and fitness sector since 1984, specialising in high-risk populations since 1999.

In a freelance role, I am a tutor, assessor and internal quality assurance lead for several level two, three and four accredited health and fitness exercise instructor training courses.

Know Me
Better

I have an interest in the application of strength training for those diagnosed with long-term medical conditions. I have achieved the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist qualification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association. I hold the two highest American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) awards; Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) and Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist (RCEP). I am a previous member of the ACSM's RCEP Certification Exam Team.

I was a British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) Certified Exercise Practitioner (CEP) and recently represented BASES on the British Association of Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation Exercise Professional Group (BACPR EPG)

I have co-developed and am now the course director for the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Cardiac Rehabilitation (ACPICR) and BACPR Resistance Training course, which is delivered across the UK to cardiac rehabilitation professionals.

I presented on the topic of “Resistance Training in the Heart Failure Population” in 2013 and in 2019 "Resistance training (RT); is there a best time to incorporate it within a CR session?" at the BACPR EPG annual conference.

As a result of a three-week work placement to the cardiac rehabilitation programme at Baylor Heart Hospital, in Dallas, Texas in 2014, I have co-authored the published work;
